Ismael Mangual, 43, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge Janet Bond Arterton in New Haven on Thursday, March 28.

Court documents and statements show that on August 31, 2017, Milford Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle Mangual was driving. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that Mangual did not have a license, and the vehicle was not registered or insured.

There was also a six-year-old child in the back seat of the car without a seatbelt.

A search of the vehicle revealed a loaded Glock 27 .40 caliber handgun, a Glock 30 .45 handgun that was reported stolen, approximately 140 grams of heroin and a digital scale.

The loaded gun was discovered in the rear footwear of the car, in close proximity to where the child had been sitting.

Mangual was arrested on state charges and pleaded guilty to possession with intent to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a narcotics trafficking offense.

Judge Arterton scheduled the sentencing for June 20. Mangual, who has a criminal history of state convictions for robbery and narcotics offenses, faces a mandatory minimum prison term of 10 years and a maximum of 40 years.
